Official Archives, continued

And the year became 1970 with Ingram being the leader of all and Humphrey of the ladies. And the people said "let there be planning so that we will continue to grow and do good" So it came to pass that the committee on planning was told to plan. Thus has it been these years of eight; and how it will be thereafter the almighty powers of the Commissioners of the County, the wisdom of the wisemen of the club, and the neighbors of complaining will determine forever more.

And so it was that the Master Plan was conceived of the committee, born of the membership and suffered by the Commissioners of Pierce and it was good And it began to grow into full being.

In the year 1971 Ingram was again the leader of the families and Edman of the ladies. And they said let us proceed with our plan. And so it was that the courts 9 and 10 were enclosed so that the wind and rain no longer went in and the noise no longer went out. And people came to see and the club continued to prosper.

And in the year 1972 the people called their leaders Edman and Duncan. And Edman said "how shall we house my many carriers of the racquet" and thus it was that the committee of the wisemen floated among themselves bonds bearing great goodness which caused gold coins to flow like milk and honey. And courts 7 and 8 were drawn on the boards of those who draw. But the people were still unhappy as their racquets were not swinging true and they said "we need a teacher and one who deals in balls that bounce". And thus it was that the great teacher Palmer was called and he brought with him a wife Patti, and great wisdom for the swingers of racquets and balls that bounce. And the people rejoiced with much swinging.

In the year 1973 the milk and honey became courts 7 and 8 and the leaders were Linthicum of the men and Richter of the ladies. And the people were much pleased as the hours were great. And the numbers to watch and play were much multiplied. And it came to pass that families were 202.

Thus it was in 1974 when Ervin of the men and Ellis of the ladies were leaders of the families. And the people said we are weary of laboring to write on the books, to answer the bell that rings and to send messages to all. So it came to pass that there came a vision and the vision was a pair of Millers. But the Millers did not mill, but did all things well and the people sighed and said this is very good.

Then great peace came to all who came to play and be happy. The pool it was clean, the grass it was short, the flowers were many and the books they were balanced in the black. In the year 1975 Roland led the families and Getchell the ladies. And the ladies said let there be beauty in the club house and so it was that this came to pass. And the families numbered 300.

And in 1976 Roland again led the families and Nelson the ladies. And all said "the time cometh for the ladies to give voice at the meeting of the great Board", and so the laws by which people lived were changed. And the ladies sat on the Board and were heard. Sadness came when the Millers departed and the families wished them well as they moved to Minnesota. And the players prospered as they listed to the wisdom of the new great teacher, Vernon, teacher of youth and of the elders. And Vernon created a tournament to test the skill of the elders who played together in pairs and the name of the tournament was known by all as the Lakewood Racquet Club Invitational Senior Doubles Championships. And elders came from all parts in the Northwest to test their skills.

And in the 77th year of 1900 the families were led by a giant among them called Thomas the younger and Hanson led the ladies. And the programs for the juniors prospered under Vernon and he did also manage the gold coins. And in that year sidewalks appeared which were made of stones small and smooth and other good works were done which made the club a beautiful place to come and play and the people came and said it is good and all was well in the land.

In the year of 1978 the people learned of a game in which players did pay their gold coins and purchased partners to swing racquets in pairs and the people said we must have such a game and so it came to pass that the Calcutta came into the Temple and the people led by Ristine of the families and Cakarnis of the ladies did rejoice and the coins they did rain into the purses of the Temple and the racquets they did swing in pairs.
